Rick Yancey’s Viral Campaign for the YA Sci-Fi Series The 5th Wave Has Begun (via Hypable)

The 5th Wave

The campaign for Rick Yancey- the author of The Monstrumologist trilogy’s- new series The 5th Wave is well underway. Which is a lot farther along than it was during NYCC when all we knew about it was that it was an alien series with an intriguing if confusing poster. Now we know that it’s about an alien invasion dubbed the Arrival, featuring a main character named Cassie (NICE NAME!) who despite trying to elude the alien scourge and locate her brother has time to maintain her own Tumblr. The first 54 pages of the novel have also been released. We’re already sold.

First Look at a Pants-less and Eyeliner-ed Magnus Bane (via MTV)

Magnus Bane

So far from what we’ve seen, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones movie looked like it might have none of the fun and humor of Cassandra Clare’s series. Until we saw MTV’s behind the scenes videos of Magnus Bane, who is holding a party, dancing around pants-less, wearing a ton of makeup and being a Flirty McFlirt Flirt. Bonus points to actor Godfrey Gao whose main goal was to honor the fan favorite character. Check out the full video on MTV since they’re jerk faces who won’t let us embed.

Stephanie Perkins Books Get a Cover Re-design That Is Growing On Us (via Entertainment Weekly)

Stephanie Perkins Book Re-Design

Stephanie Perkins new book in her YA romance series (that is so much more than a romance series) Isla and the Happily Ever After doesn’t come out until September, but in anticipation of the final book in the trilogy, the other two novels got a re-design which will be available in July. Which we kind of like. Honestly, we hated them at first, but the more we look at them, the more we love them. They’re colorful and fun, just like Steph, we’re just worried they may not draw in new readers like the original Lola cover, which features a purple haired cutie. Although to be honest, the original covers were far too juvenile for our liking. You just can’t win with us we suppose. Types the girl who writes in the first person plural form for no reason.

Gollum/Smeagol Comes Back to Sing a Cover of Gary Jules “Mad World” Cover (via The Mary Sue)

Gollum is back to sing us some tunes! And by back, I mean since he sang “I Dreamed a Dream” and won our hearts just last week. This time around, the impressionist decided to cover “Mad World”, most famous for its appearance in Donnie Darko. If you haven’t seen Donnie Darko, get the fuck off our site right now and go watch it. We kind of hope this dude keeps up with his musical parodies. Favorite lines this time around: “Went out fishing with our brother Deagol / Happy birthday, happy birthday / Deagol said that we could have the precious / Or something like that, something like that.”
