Around the Interwebs: Volume XXIV

Stephen King’s The Shining Sequel Doctor Sleep Gets a Trailer (via The Daily Dead)

Horror afficianado Stephen King’s famous novel The Shining has a sequel coming out called Doctor Sleep (available in September) and if you can’t contain your excitement, there’s a trailer to hold you over for the time being. The novel itself is set several decades after the original and features Danny Torrance (now in his 40’s) trying to save an equally special twelve-year-old girl from a tribe of “psychic vampires.” He also does double duty as Doctor Sleep, lulling nursing home residents into death with the help of a magical cat. No, really.

Tim Burton Will Direct the Film Adaptation of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (via Word & Film)

Tim Burton Montage

Director Tim Burton is set to direct the young adult book Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs, about a boy who finds a rip in time which leads him to a group of spectacular children with super powers. The screenplay is currently being written by Jane Goldman, who also penned Kick-Ass (YES!), the X-Men films (depends which ones), and Neil Gaiman’s adaptation Stardust (which was just eh). Miss Peregrine’s  sequel Hollow City will be out in January 2014 but it doesn’t have a film deal. Yet.

Panic By Lauren Oliver Gets Optioned By Universal Without Being Published (via Hypable)

Lauren Oliver Book Banner

Lauren Oliver’s new novel Panic isn’t out until March 2014, but Universal already won the rights to turn it into a movie after a serious bidding war. That’s a seven-figure bidding war. The stand-alone novel will be set in the world of fictional reality and is set in a well-to-do New York town where the local teenagers play a dangerous game during the summer. Here’s hoping it does better than her television pilot “Delirium” which despite being a great trilogy was dead in the water TV-wise.

Bellatrix Lestrange Cast as the Fairy Godmother in Professor Gilderoy Lockhart’s Cinderella Movie Alongside Robb Stark (via Oh No They Didn’t!)

Cinderella Fairy Godmother

You may have heard about Kenneth Branagh’s adaptation of the fairytale Cinderella, which now has its stepmother, specifically Branagh’s fellow Harry Potter cast-member Helena Bonham Carter. This is a huge departure for HBC, who usually plays some deranged character with terrible hair and even worse motives. She will be joined by Robb Stark himself, Richard Madden as Prince Charming, evil stepmother Cate Blanchett and Lily James from “Downton Abbey” as Cinderella. You know, since Emma Watson dropped out and all.

“Game of Thrones” Gets Its Very Own Rap Battle (via YouTube)

“Game of Thrones” plus a little boy’s birthday party plus an epic rap battle equals the best “Game of Thrones” song ever. It’s cast almost perfectly and the lyrics sound like something thought up by the Lonely Island. Featuring: Robert Baratheon making a special bastard orphanage, Cersei Lannister banging her brother, Joffrey “Baratheon” being a terrible person, Daenerys Targaryen rapping like Kesha, some unnecessarily happy Stark Bannerman heading to a wedding and Jon Snow’s interlude about having hot cave sex.

Now You Can Wear Alice and the Caterpillar as a Bathing Suit (via Black Milk Clothing)

Black Milk Alice and Caterpillar Swimsuit

Things Cassie-la bought this week because she couldn’t say no: this bathing suit. That’s right, I bought this bathing suit so hard. Black Milk has had other Alice bathing suits in the past (including this Drink Me one) but this is their nicest yet. The colors, the hookah smoking caterpillar, the striped tights! It doesn’t even matter that it’s a one piece because that’s how amazing it is.

What Would Happen if the Disney Princesses Were Can-Can Dancers (via Geekologie)

Disney Can Can Dancers

We love when people create Disney Princesses as things other than Disney Princesses, and these ladies as Moulin Rouge dancers are perhaps our favorite yet. Particularly you Ariel, looking good! They were created by artist and graphic designer MADHANZ (yes, all capitals) and shared on that wonderfully addictive social media site, Tumblr. Abandon all hope ye who enter Tumblr. No, seriously, there’s no escape. We know people who have tried.
