Universal Bought the Rights to Anne Rice’s “The Vampire Chronicles” So They Better Reboot “Queen of the Damned”

Interview with the Vampire

The vampire Lestat may be returning to us in more than just book form because Universal Pictures, Imagine Entertainment and Brian Grazer have snapped up the rights to the entire series.

Which is amazing since the Queen of the Damned film really deserves a reboot as good as the book.

Said deal gives the trio access to all of Rice’s vampire books in the series as well as the screenplay for Tale of the Body Thief written by Anne’s son Christopher Rice.

As we’ve already gushed, author Anne Rice is currently working on a sequel to Queen of the Damned and the first five books in the series, with a focus on everyone’s favorite spoiled vampire Lestat.

The deal also gives them the rights to this upcoming book (titled The Prince Lestat) as well as all other upcoming books in the series.

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will be producing, so we have high hopes that they will make something as amazing as Sleepy Hollow. Or else.
