Stephen Colbert Interviewed Smaug and Cosplayed Tolkien Characters Like a Boss

Stephen Colbert is the Tolkien fan to end all Tolkien fans, evidenced by his three cosplay covers for Entertainment Weekly where he dressed as Gandalf, Bilbo and Legolas and the fact that he recently interviewed Smaug, the CGI dragon voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch.

And it’s all to celebrate/mourn the end of Peter Jackson’s reign over Middle-earth.

His sojourn into the world of Tolkien concludes this month with the third and final Hobbit movie The Hobbit: How Does This Story Have More Endings Than Return of the King? The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies which once had a more bookish name.

This is not the first time that Tolkien has celebrated all things Middle-earth. He also had Hobbit Week on “The Colbert Report” for the first film and even had a cameo in The Desolation of Smaug.

You can watch him interview Benedict Cumberdragon above (who hands a pretty sick burn to Orlando Bloom) and yell at people for passing while dressed as Gandalf below.

You know, because you didn’t love him enough already.
