Book Traveling Thursdays: A Character You Love to Hate

Cress Greek CoverBook Traveling Thursdays is a weekly feature created by Danielle’s Book Blog and The Girl Who Read Too Much that highlights book covers from around the world.

This week’s theme was to choose a book with a character you love to hate, and my mind immediately went to the antagonist of The Lunar Chronicles: Queen Levana, an attempted baby murderer bent on universal domination.

Inspired by Snow White’s evil stepmother, Levana comes complete with a tragic past, a great fashion sense and a seriously evil personality.

While I could have chosen to highlight Levana’s prequel Fairest, it just didn’t seem right considering the majority of the book you’re meant to empathize with this future villainess, and let’s be honest, Marissa Meyer’s Cress has some amazing covers to choose from.

Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.

Their best hope lies with Cress, who has been trapped on a satellite since childhood with only her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker; unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.

When a daring rescue goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing stop her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only ones who can.

  1. The French covers are my favorites beside the originals. They’re gorgeous! Nice choices! I almost picked Levana this week too but I had a feeling it would be a popular choice haha

    • I had a few other villains that came to mind (specifically from A Darker Shade of Magic and NOS4A2), but the Lunar Chronicles just has so many cover options!
