Netflix’s ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ Will Star Lemony Snicket (As Played By Patrick Warburton)

A Series of Unfortunate Events author Lemony Snicket will be joining the cast of the Netflix television adaptation, but not in the capacity you may think.

Snicket, the pen name of author Daniel Handler and also the fictional storyteller recounting the tales of the Baudelaire orphans, will be played by Patrick Warburton.

So. Many. Layers.

Warburton joins previously announced cast member Neil Patrick Harris, who will be playing the sinister guardian of the Baudelaire children: Count Olaf.

In addition to this casting news, it was also revealed today that Season 1 will consist of eight episodes — presumably based around The Bad Beginning, the first book in the series.

If you have not read anything about the Baudelaire orphans, then before you read even one more sentence, you should know this: Violet, Klaus, and Sunny are kindhearted and quick-witted, but their lives are filled with bad luck and misery. All of the stories about these three children are unhappy and wretched and will most likely fill you with deep despair.
