‘Watership Down’ is Getting Another Cartoon Adaptation with an All-Star Cast

Watership Down Still

Richard Adams’ Watership Down — the classic tale about a group of talking rabbits — is getting yet another cartoon adaptation.

The animated four-part mini-series is being created by the BBC in conjunction with Netflix, and will tone down the traumatizing levels of violence the original film is known for to make the adaptation more family friendly.

On the plus side, there will be more heroic roles for females.

James McAvoy, John Boyega, Sir Ben Kingsley, Gemma Arterton, Olivia Colman and Nicholas Hoult are just a few of the stars attached to the project.

Excited? The mini-series will air at the end of 2017.

A phenomenal worldwide bestseller for more than forty years, Richard Adams’s Watership Down is a timeless classic and one of the most beloved novels of all time.

Set in England’s Downs, a once idyllic rural landscape, this stirring tale of adventure, courage, and survival follows a band of very special creatures on their flight from the intrusion of man and the certain destruction of their home. Led by a stouthearted pair of brothers, they journey forth from their native Sandleford Warren through the harrowing trials posed by predators and adversaries, to a mysterious promised land and a more perfect society.
