Waiting on Wednesday: ‘My Best Friend’s Exorcism’ by Grady Hendrix

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly series hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming book releases we can’t wait to get our hands on.

This week’s Waiting on Wednesday pick is a period piece set in the truly outrageous ’80s: My Best Friend’s Exorcism.

Set in 1988, Horrorstör author Grady Hendrix’s re-release is described as an “unholy hybrid of Beaches and The Exorcist.”

Between that and the cover — which would look right at home on the shelf of a Blockbuster — we are beyond sold.

You can snag My Best Friend’s Exorcism and its amazing new cover next month on July 11, 2017!

A heartwarming story of friendship and demonic possession. The year is 1988. High school sophomores Abby and Gretchen have been best friends since fourth grade. But after an evening of skinny-dipping goes disastrously wrong, Gretchen begins to act…different. She’s moody. She’s irritable. And bizarre incidents keep happening whenever she’s nearby. Abby’s investigation leads her to some startling discoveries—and by the time their story reaches its terrifying conclusion, the fate of Abby and Gretchen will be determined by a single question: Is their friendship powerful enough to beat the devil? Like an unholy hybrid of Beaches and The Exorcist, My Best Friend’s Exorcism blends teen angst, adolescent drama, unspeakable horrors, and a mix of ’80s pop songs into a pulse-pounding supernatural thriller.

  1. I loved Horrorstor by Grady Hendrix, and I love exorcism novels…but for some reason, this book is *completely* unappealing to me. I cannot figure out why, either! LOL. I just have no desire whatsoever to pick it up.
